Medication Abortion Experience: Timeline and Expected Symptoms

Question
HI, i had an abortion using medication, the pharmacist gave me two injections on the butt two pill to insert and four to drink...the 1st injection was given at 8pm the other was at 9pm  the two inserts were inserted at 10pm and the four orall were taken at 10:30 i was instructed that i would feel pain in the back as well as in the abdomen within 1-4hrs that night. Well, i felt verry little pain wich i found to be strange it was not uncomfortable at all.But i did pass clots one of them was a thick pink in colour fleshy substance while the other little ones were your normal clots.***now this passed between the night the the medications were given and the next day which was the Friday.July 14 & 15th . Wednesday July 20th I passed out clots again after suffering severe back and abdominal pain there was one clot that seemed like a sac and the other was somewhat flat a little gray in colour, after these passed the pain was gone immediately. Is this NORMAL??? am still bleeding and still having cramps and just little clots passing every now and then....should i be concern being that the process seemed to have taken longer that has normal....i really dont know how it should be and my husband and i are worried over this.

Answer
Hello, Natasha,

Unfortunately, having an abortion to begin with is not normal. You are now much more likely to get breast cancer or auto-immune disease such as lupus. There may also be emotional problems. If you need to talk about any of that, I am here for you.

A pill abortion takes several days, no matter what. There is no such thing as "normal" because the pills are poisonous, and they affect different women differently. It is common to have pain, and to pass a lot of blood and small flesh-colored things. If you are lucky, the bleeding will stop completely soon. Women have been known to bleed to death after a pill abortion. Also, inserting pills can be very dangerous. Inserting them into the vagina is particularly dangerous, and can kill a woman. She can get a massive infection that can kill her within hours. Since it is now July 21, the danger of dying in that way is not as great as it was, but you are not necessarily safe at this point. If you develop any symptoms at all, go IMMEDIATELY to the doctor or hospital, tell them what you did, ask them to test you for Clostridium sordellii, and ask them to start aggressive life-saving measures immediately if you have it. I am not aware of any woman who has survived once she has developed symptoms.

Your husband should be protecting you from abortion. Have a talk with him. As long as you are married, there is no reason not to have a baby. If you need help, there may be an organization near you that can help you. But please don't take such chances with your life in the future. You deserve better. If you still have concerns at any time, please see a doctor. Nobody will be able to tell you over the internet that all is well. Take care, and let me know how you do.
