QuestionHi my name is paula. l have taken cytotec meds last july 10 that I have purchased through the internet since I live in the philippines where abortion is illegal. She gave me 6 cytotec and 6 merthegen. She instructed me to take 2 cytotec and 2 merthegen together and to put 2 cytotec at my vagina at 10 in the evening. Every after 2 hours 2 merthegens was instructed for me to take after 5 hours the bleeding started. Blood clots and heavy bleeding started after taking the meds but on the second day it stopped but continued bledding in the afternoon of that day and on the 3rd day a sac was released together to many blood and it hurt so much that is why I considered it a complete absortion the bleeding still continued up until now Aug. 10 which makes it a month now of bleeding. Im pretty worried since it still have not stop and I think its been too long for it too continue even though just little amount of blood is released because its color is brown with a bad smell. Is this normal after taking abortion pills..?? Does it normally last this long ..?? Is the color and smell normal..? I asked the one who I bought the meds and she said that the placenta was left behind and it might be dangerous to my health. She said it must be taken out by a set of new meds. I am worried because maybe she might not be telling the truth? It is true that if the placenta is left it can be fatal to my health.? Shoul I really take a new set of meds to take it out.? She says that if placenta is left behind it can poison my blood is it true.? I am doubting them since I am not feeling anything that is not normal I feel totally fine. My only problem is the bleeding that still Has not stop. What should I do .???Plss help me with all my question pls.. I would really appreciate your help.
AnswerHello, Paula,
I am sorry you are experiencing such problems. Unfortunately, many women experience this level of difficulty. That's one reason abortion is illegal in the Philippines. It hurts women. The medical consequences can be horrendous, and so can the emotional and spiritual consequences. The law is intended to protect you from the very kind of unscrupulous people such as the one who sold you the pills. You are right to doubt she is telling you the truth. She is practicing medicine without a license. I don't know what the licensing requirements are in all the countries of the world, but in our country, she could wind up in prison for doing what she is doing.
You didn't tell me how far along you were. Have you tested for pregnancy lately?
Cytotec is not intended for abortion. It is a stomach ulcer medication. The manufacturer says a pregnant woman should never take it because it can kill her. Putting Cytotec in the vagina is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. It can cause toxic shock syndrome. In that case, the drug causes a woman's immune system to shut down, and the result is that if she has Clostridium sordellii (a very common situation), she can develop an infection, and her body won't fight back. Once symptoms start, this can kill a woman in hours. I don't know of any way to save her life once symptoms start. You said it has been a month (well, almost) since you took the Cytotec, and as far as I know, you are out of the danger zone.
Whatever you do, DON'T TAKE ANY MORE PILLS! You have already taken too many, and that's why you are having problems. These pills ARE poisonous when a woman is pregnant. And they don't always cause an abortion anyway. It is interesting that the Methergen isn't helping, but not surprising. You can try eating foods with red hot peppers, but what you are experiencing seems to be old blood.
Whoever sold you those pills is being highly irresponsible. She just wants more of your money. You don't know that the placenta is still in your body. Having an abortion isn't normal, and neither is having brown, smelly discharge. Normally, the placenta is tightly attached to a woman's uterus throughout most of pregnancy. The placenta consists of two parts. The part attached to the uterus is made of the cells of the mother's body. The part attached to the baby with the umbilical cord is made up of the cells of the baby's body. There is a membrane between the two. The placenta doesn't normally separate from the mother's body until the end of labor. If the baby dies, eventually the placenta will be released. However, since the placenta is attached to the baby through the umbilical cord, and this is a solid attachment, saying that the baby can be expelled without the placenta is pretty much nonsense. The membrane between the two parts is NOT where the placenta separates. The maternal part separates from the wall of the uterus. So I would say that her claim that you still have the placenta is extremely unlikely.
However, Cytotec depresses a woman's immune system in general, and even if she doesn't get toxic shock syndrome, she is still susceptible to infections her body would otherwise resist. If a woman has sex before she stops bleeding, this can cause an infection. A woman can get a sexually transmitted disease from this. She can also get other infections that can make her incapable of having a child, and cause a lot of pain in the future. Some of these are "silent" because there are no overt symptoms. Pelvic inflammatory disease is such a problem.
Bleeding for weeks is extremely common. It is also dangerous. Since you are not losing much blood, you probably aren't in any danger of bleeding to death (which a lot of women do). However, be prepared for sudden, unexpected bleeding until it stops completely (and that means for a period of days). From the correspondence I have had here, it would seem that one of the factors that can contribute to prolonged bleeding is malnutrition. A lot of the women who bleed to death are from India, and they're vegetarians. Vegetarianism causes malnutrition. A woman needs animal fat to produce the hormones that keep her body in balance. So I tell them they need to start eating eggs or cheese or drinking milk. They really should eat meat as well, but asking a vegetarian to do that probably isn't wise.
So after this very long winded explanation, what I would recommend is that you see a doctor. Yes, abortion is illegal in the Philippines. But the problem you are having could be potentially fatal, depending on what is causing it. It could also harm your future children. You need to be examined and tested. If the doctor determines that you didn't pass everything, he will most likely do surgery. But you need to rule out sexually transmitted diseases (there are about 50 of them at present), or some other kind of infection. If you are concerned about going to a doctor because abortion is illegal, you should call one of these phone numbers:
7337027
7349425
0919-2337783 (text)
0932-8776593
0917-5805370
They will have connections to doctors who are used to dealing with complications from abortion.
A doctor should not reveal your medical history to anyone without your permission. I don't know how strictly doctors observe this anymore, but it is part of their ethics that this information is to be kept secret.
So please do not take any more pills. Go see a doctor instead. Please let me know what happens. Please keep yourself safe; no more abortions. Abortions are too dangerous, and you deserve better.
