Circumvallate Placenta: Understanding Risks & Management
QuestionI am 24 years old, gravida 4 para 2 (early m/c), date of last period Sept 22,2003. I had a follow up appt. today and my OB/GYN does not seem concerned about the circumvallate placenta, she relates my bleeding to the placenta still being low. The tech. that did the u/s told us with no question that the placenta is circumvallate. Should the OB/GYN be doing any thing about this? I think it's probably her first case of this. Or is it a just wait and see kind of thing? Should we hava a f/u u/s? The baby is showing no signs of IUGR, she weighed 863 grams at 25 weeks 3 days. Thanks for all your help!
AnswerAt this point, there is nothing to do at all. I would repeat the sonogram in 4 weeks to see if the placenta is still Low-lying, but there is nothing more to be done. Just watch out for any vaginal bleeding and notify your doctor if you see any bleeding.
