Teen Pregnancy & Bleeding Disorders: Understanding Risks and Options

Question
My son's girlfriend is pregnant, she is 16.  They both want to keep the baby but her parents are telling her that she has had a blood disorder since she was little.  Of which she remembers nothing about, and that if she has the baby she has a 1 percent chance of living thur the pregnancy. She is really scared and her parents are trying to force her to get an abortion which they do not want. She isn't on any meds for any problem and she seems to be doing great no fainting no bleeding just morning sickness cravings normal stuff.  She has asked me to find someone who might be able to clear this up for her.  And she doesn't know a name they just tell her a bleeding disorder.  Please can you help us.  Thank You

Answer
HI Janet,
I would take her to another doctor say your doctor and get her evaluated for any inkling on any testing of the blood disorder. They can do extensive testing with your permission and see if there is anything to worry about, then if there is one get the appropriate treatments and if not then decide what to do. Let me know what you find out. As far as the legal issue you may just have to claim her as your own if they won't test, but explain to the doctor what you are trying to do since she is pregnant.
