Acrylic vs. Gel Nails: Which is Best for Healthy Nails?

Question
Can you tell me the difference in these 'fake' nails and the preference for developing healthier nails. I have been getting acryllic nails for a few months and told by nearly all techs to never get gel.  This past week I was told in order to make my own nails better, I should always get gel even though it is slightly more expensive.  Who is lying to me?

Answer
Both are lying to you, Gel is not healthyer than acrylic and vice versa. Both systems belong to acrylic family and the diference is how it is applied. Acrylic is a mixture of a liquid and a powder, that when combiend start to cure, gel doesn't have to be mixed and only starts to cure when placed under an uv light.
Enhancements shouldn't damage your natural nail, but it won't improve your natural nails either. When you remove enhancements, your nails should be just like they were before. On the other hand, bad nail tech CAN damage your nails, or bad habits. Over filing, biting, riping the enhancements of will certanly damage your nails.
So why chose one system over the other? It's a matter of preference. Acrylics tend to be stronger and can be soak off with acetone, but they have to be buffed to gain shine. Gels tend to look more natural, are naturaly shinny but can't be soaked off, have to be filled off.
