Silk vs. Gel Nails: Which is Best for Weak Nails?

I have finally decided to get fake nails but I am nervous b/c I do
not want to permanently damage my nails (they are already
weak/peeling).  

Would you recommend sillk or gel nails?  Which look the most
natural and do the least damage?  I want to extend them only a
bit just above my fingers, and keep a polished, elegant look.

More important than chosing a system is chosing a good nail tech. None of the systems damages the natural nail when properly used, but a bad nail tech can do serious damages. So do a bit of reserch, see what brand they use (i higly recomend AGAISNT going to salons that use products without labels) see their portfolio if they have one, see if they have returning/happy clients.
The diference betwen gel and fiberglass, besides the way they are applied (fiberglass is a bit easier and faster) gel is very shiny and natural looking but can't be soaked off in acetone, fiberglass can be soaked off but has to be buffed to high shine.
I think they are both great options.
