Understanding and Treating Natural Nail Lifting - Causes & Recovery

Question
Hi Susana,

I have been wearing acrylic overlays now for about 15 weeks. I noticed however that my real nails are lifting from the nail bed on almost every one of my nails. This had happened about 6 months ago, I stopped wearing acrylics for like 6 months and now going back to it, the same thing has happened again. What do you think is causing this? What kind of nail care would you recommend moving forward for the next month or so to nurse my nails back to health and will I ever be able to use some sort of overlay like gel in the future. My natural nails don't grow and I need something low maintenance which is why acrylics are so convenient for me.

Answer
Usually lifting product is beacuse of a poor peparation of the nail tech prior to application.
The nail should have it's shine removed and then be very scrubbed very well with a disinfectant/dehidrationg formula to improve adhesion
Sometimes clients can also induce lifting by picking/biting on their nails or having their nails in water for long periods.
I recomend that you use gloves whenever you are doing household chores, and to apply cuticle oil daily. If the problem persists ask your nail tech about it.
Hope i could help.
Sorry for taking longer than usual to reply but i've been having some problems conecting to the internet.
