Understanding Silk Wraps for Natural Nail Growth: A Customer's Experience

Question
i origianlly had acrylics on my nails to allows for my nails to grow out and they did.  i went to get the acrylics removed so i can work with my natural nails.  the acrylics were taken off very nicely.  the lady talked me into getting "silk" nails.  i don't think that's what i paid for though so i need some clarification.  basically what they do is put a clear polish one layer on each nail.  she then dipped my nail, nail by nail, in a white paid and tapped nail to get extra white off.  then she took glue and put a dot in middle til it spread through the nail to cover.  she then buffs them and paints them.  they are very strong and do look pretty natural but i was just curious as to what it's called that was done.  they call it silk but not sure if it is from research i've done.  what is the procedure called and what is best for nails?  thank you in advance for your help!

Answer
H Stacie,
Silk is a thin fabric that is cut and applied to the nail and then covered in 3 layers of resin, what you are describing sounds very much like a quick method thats called tip and dip, where your finger is dipped in powder, tapped and coated with glue, this is not silk, it is a form of acrylic.
