QuestionI am currently taking a multivitamin (One-A-Day for Women). Is is necessary to take a separate vitamin for my nails
AnswerHi Cynthia,
If you want faster growing nails, be sure that your diet is rich in Vitamins A, B-Complex, C, D, E and iron, calcium, zinc, sulfur, and the essential fatty acids. So as far as the One-A-Day Vitamines go, your on the right path.
If you are wanting thicker, stronger nails, that is going to take a little more maintenance. Strong nails is a matter of hormones and genes. So if you don't have strong nails now and your not planning on getting pregnant any time soon, here are some tips!
MOISTURIZE! MOISTURIZE! MOISTURIZE!
Why do some nails crack and break all the time? Because their not flexible! So I recommend my all time favorite treatment. Creative Nail Design's "Solar Balm." There is also solar oil, but the balm is more of an intense therapy. Not only is it wonderful for your nails but it's even better for your cuticles. Apply twice a day on your nails and cuticles, if you can remember! Good places to keep it to remember are, your work place, on your desk. Or beside your bed, making it a morning and night ritual. In order to get this product, you could most likely go to any salon and request it, but if you have problems, contact me again and I can have it sent to you. If you want to go with another product, something is better than nothing.
Another reason nails become fragile is the way we treat them. Use gloves for household maintenance. When doing dishes or cleaning with chemicals.
IMPORTANT!
When filing your nails, use a high grit file. So use the smoother side of an emery board. File your nails side to center, side to center. Don't file back and forth, that weakens the nail. Don't file into the sides (cuticles) of your nails, it can cause hangnails. Keep your nails at a "square-oval" shape. You want your nails at their natural shape for maximum strength.
I have very week nails, but I can grow them out and rarely break one, because of this. My only other problem was keeping polish on them. But I have also solved that problem. I use the Nail-Tek Transition kit. It helps to get your nails back to normal after they have gone through hell and back. It comes with a basecoat, topcoat, and cuticle oil. It has to be replaced every 7 to 10 days depending on how you use it. But I never have chipping! If you have them polished I suggest a basecoat and topcoat and cuticle oil or balm twice a day! There are other products out there. If you want to know a bit more about this product let me know. This is another product you should request at a salon.
I hope after all the babbling I've answered your question, if you need anything else, I'm all ears!
Thanks!
Jeannie
