Why Are My Acrylic Nails Turning Yellow? Causes & Solutions
QuestionI have pink and white acrylic nails with gel overlay. I do not go to the tanning bed nor smoke but am having trouble with them turning yellowish between fills. What could be causing this? Would a UV topcoat help? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
AnswerDear Kristie,
Quality acrylic and quality UV Gel should NEVER yellow all the way through the product. Occasionally the "surface" of quality acrylic and/or UV Gel may become stained HOWEVER buffing/filing of the surface will remove the stain.
Only cheap/illegal acrylic containing MMA (toxic) will yellow with age. A UV topcoat won't help much, honestly.
Please see this page on my site to learn more about MMA and how to avoid salons using it, and how to know what to look for in a quality technician: http://ongles-chez-victoria.tripod.com/victoriasnails/id18.html
I hope this helps.
