QuestionI had a client that came to me because her new acrylic nails were hurting her. When I removed the nail polish I noticed her nails were bright yellow. Not the acrylic itself but all around on her natural nail bed. All ten fingers. I removed the yellow by gently filing it away. It did remove very easily with a file. I hated filing her natural nail, but didn't know what else to do. I then applied a "fung off" solution and put her in gels. I tried to file the acrylic off as much as I could, but didn't want to damage her nails anymore. What could that bright yellow be?
AnswerThe yellow wasn't there before you removed the polish? What color was the polish?
Many polish colors have a strong yellow base and when you take the polish off, it can really show up along the sidewalls and cuticles. Some skin types really stain from these pigments and it can be difficult to get it off with the polish remover.
I notice this with some red polishes, and especially any green polishes.
If the yellow wasn't there before you took the polish off, I'd definitely say that's the culprit.
It sounds like you did what you could about the discoloration and took good precautionary steps though, so kudos.
