Nail Health Concern: Identifying and Addressing White Tip Issues & Fill Lines

Question
WOW -- I've spent over an hour reading these boards.  Thanks to all the volunteers!  However, now I realize I've been probably going to a NSS and probably have been getting filled with the "bad" chemical.  All the signs point that way, at least.  So, now I need to get my nails fixed.  I have pin like dots (air?), some are clear, some are black on my white tips, AND rings at the bottoms of my nails, similar to a tree trunk.  I can see how many fills I've had by the number of rings.  Also is it normal to have only one side of each nail rounded, and the other straighter?  Also, one hand is ALWAYS shorter.  When I asked the tech. about it, she said something about the nail beds being different sizes and that was natural.  I am not sure we are communicating.  Do I need to have these nails taken off by a different tech, or can I just start w/ my next fill?  Also, I have read the links about how to choose a reputable tech, but I am not confident.  Is there a message board related to recommendations?  Thanks again, and keep up the good work (even though I didn't know how bad it was until now!)

Answer
Hi Lori-
First the dots, it sounds like clear dots are air pockets but I am unsure of the black dots. Either dirt or possibly bacteria or fungus. Either way I would have them removed by soaking and start from scratch. If it is fungus you will have to wait until it clears up. The rings are from over filing. It is damage and can only be grown out. As far as uneveness in straight and rounded this could occur do to wear of the nail from everyday activity but if she is filing them that way no that is weird. Your nail beds could differ but she can compensate for it. Also it is common for two different lengths say dominant hand shorter since you wear on it more or if you a guitar player the hand you pluck with is longer. As far as recommendations do a google search for your area. I am not sure where you are from but you can find a lot of reviews on line now.
Good Luck and Congrats for taking the time to research.
