Drill-Free Nail Preparation: Options & Benefits

QUESTION: I have heard that there is a new type of nail that can be applied without using a drill to file down the nails.  What is it?

ANSWER: Barbara,
Any nail product can be done with or without a drill! The only reason people use a drill is to save time and save energy! You can get the exact same result by hand filing, it just takes longer. This goes for anything Gels or acrylics. I personally Hand file all of my clients. I dont like the drill. I take the time to do it correctly so The natural nail does not get damaged. However because I spend more time I charge a lot more. So dont except to go to happy nails and pay 15 dollars for a fill.

The reason you must file the natural nail is to create a rough surface and remove all your natural oils. That is what Makes the product stay. If you didn't do this the acrylic or gels would lift right off!!

However you are absolutely right. It is not good for your you, or your nails and it certainly does not help your nails grow! If you care about having healthy nails I would suggest you stay away from any product all together. Get Manicures every two weeks and put cuticle oil on at night. That is the best thing for your nails! People that wear Acrylics are doing it for Vanity purposes and don't care about the fact that its not good for them.
