QuestionHi, I would like to know if I can put clear polish over my pink and white, They are done with pink and white powder that has a gel finish. After a few days I noticed my nails get dull they are no longer shiny. Am I able to put clear polish over my gel tips? Will this damaged my nails? I asked the technician if I can buff them he says they may turn yellow. They did turn yellow but when I saw him again he said they turned yellow from lying in the sun, Is this true? Thank you Donna from Massachusetts
AnswerHi Donna!
Most gels and gel topcoats are very good at blocking UV light, which means that gels rarely yellow in sunlight or tanning beds. If your nails yellowed and you DID NOT buff them I'd say your nail tech is using an inferior product.
If you buff the gel, then yes, you compromise the product and it can yellow. But all you have to do is put a coat or two of non-yellowing topcoat over it and you'll be good to go. The trick is to find a good, non-yellowing topcoat. Orly makes a product called "sunscreen" for nails, and most Sally's beauty supply stores carry "Yellow stopper" which is my personal fave for a consumer brand UV-resistant topcoat.
So the short answer is yes, you can polish over your pink and whites!
