Nail Fungus After Wrap Application: Causes & Treatment

Question
I had a wrap applied on my nail. It was a thin mesh-like fabric used with a liquid product. They then dipped my nail into a powder. I noticed after removing the polish, there is a green spot under the nail and can only assume this is a fungus. What do I do to get rid of this?

Answer
Laura,
You have a wrap on your nails. Some techs reinforce the wrap with the powder. This is called a dipping system. Wraps are pretty, but I do not recommend them for all the time enhancements. It is best for temporary nails for a wedding or prom.
The green spot is NOT fungus or mold. Those terms are used incorrectly. Mold does not grow on the living human body and fungus is a white/yellowy, sometimes hard, growth UNDER the nails. It is more common on toes than fingernails.
You have a bacterial infection. You can remove the product by soaking the nail in 100% acetone for about 15 minutes. It should come off quite easily.
There are a few reasons how this could have happened. You or the tech may have touched your nail after the cleanse; she may not have cleansed before product application or she could have used dirty implements.
Do not freak out with this greenie. It is nothing to be upset about if you take care of it right away.
Also, some clients are prone to greenies for many reasons.
buenos dias,
Lynnette
