SNS Nail Systems: Impact on Nails & Removal

Question
Hello,
In the recent past I had Gel nails. Removal was horrible, mostly just filing them off my nail beds on 2 nails are buckled (for lack of a better word) The salon I go to suggest SNS I would like to know how they impact the nail and how they are removed.  What happens to the natural nail underneath? What about Toxins?  Thanks for you help!

Answer
Diane,   OOPS!!  this is additional information after my original answer.  I checked SNS after answering your question.  Although the company claims it is free from harsh chemicals, the process used is the same type of process used for Gels & Acrylic.  The product lies down on top of your nail.  If you don't have a nail, a form or tip would be used in the process.  This, is my opinion, is what you WANT TO AVOID. The damage you currently have is due to THE PROCESS and not necessarily because of the product.  Remembering, that these products tend to be toxic to varying degrees.

So sorry for your experience, thank you for visiting AllExperts.  Unfortunately, the chemical treatments have a terrible impact on nails.  I know what you are talking about when you mention buckling.  It is a ridge that forms in the nail on the nail bed.  Generally speaking this will resolve itself once the nail grows over town and reestablishes itself to the nail bed.  the buckling is obviously caused by trauma.  It is a process to grow the nail out.  I am not familiar with SNS.  If this is a product trade name, I have not heard of it.  What I can tell you is this.  If it is a chemical treatment, you will more than likely sustain damage to your nails.  If this is a product you attach to the top of the nail until the nail grows out, it will cover the damage and the nail more than likely will continue to grow.  Your nail will naturally grow to repair itself. I would not suggest using this process 100% without seeing your nails, as each person is different.  About toxins; anytime you use harsh chemicals on your nails, your body will always absorb the toxins.  The nail bed under your nail consists of nerves, lymph and capillaries, so you nails are a direct highway to your immune system and blood system.

If you can locate a Natural Nail Care Specialist who specializes in natural nail care, that would be my first suggestion.  That is what I have done for the last 25 years and it is my opinion, that it is the best process.  A good Natural Nail Care Specialist can provide you with healthy, beautiful nail care that will last 2 weeks.

Get on the Web or you local Yellow Pages and try to locate a GOOD Natural Nail Care Specialist.

Hope this is good information for you, I realize it doesn't solve your immediate problem.

One other suggestion.  If it is your desire to cover the damage until it grows out, you can go to your local drugstore and you will find nail products by Kiss. These are like a press on nail.  They come in various sizes and colors.  I do not have any affiliation with this product or company.  If you choose to use this product temporarily until your nails grow out, pay special and daily attention not to get any foreign particles or moisture under the tip to make sure you don't get any infections or fungus.

Good Luck!! Remembering, I'm not a Doctor.

Kindly, Pamela Golightly
