Nail Bed Recovery: Can Your Nails Regrow After Biting?

Hello!  I have been a nail biter for about 20 years (I'm almost 28) and I have bitten down the tips of my nails to about 5 or 6 millimeters before the very tip of my finger.

I haven't bitten my nails in a few weeks, and I have a few millimeters of nail beyond the nail bed on each finger.

I am wondering if my nail beds will grow back, and if there is anything I can do to aid this process.

Hi Matt,

Good for you for letting your nails grow! Over that long a period of time your nail beds have been conditioned to be that short.If the skin closer to the tip of your finger is higher than the nail plate chances are they won't grab on much more. My advice is to get manicures and keep lotion or cuticle conditioner on them to keep the skin moist this will also aid in growth.
