Acrylic Nails Cracking: Causes, Prevention & What to Do

Question
Hello.

I just got brand new acrylics (from one of the nicer salons in town).  The manicurist used the powder and liquid method with disposable forms.  The tips are a bit thick, but within the first day, two of them are cracked and within four days, five of them are cracked.  The cracks are at the tip of my finger (around the edge between the natural and white colors), parallel to the cuticle.  Generally, there is no pain, just annoyance.  Is this normal?  Should I get them fixed immediately?  Do you think the manicurist made a mistake?

Thanks a lot!

Answer
Hi Amy,
It sounds like there may be an issue with the technician's technique or product placement. You definitely need the "bulk" of the product to be in the stress area(where the nail meets the free edge). I would call the salon and give them the opportunity to fix the problem. Be sure to call soon as some salons will only repair problems within a certain time period.

I hope this has answered your question, but if it hasn't please feel free to contact me Amy:)
