Brisa Gel Nails: Maintaining Shine & Longevity - Troubleshooting Tips

Question
QUESTION: Hi, Brooke,

I recently got a set of Brisa gel nails and really like them.  However, I noticed that a couple of the nails always lose their shine.  I'm not sure what I'm doing that is making them turn a little dull.  I wear gloves when cleaning, use Solar oil twice a day, yet it's happened with my original set and then happened again when I got them rebalanced 2 weeks later.

A good friend of mine is a dog groomer and she is in hot water and soap all day long and her gels (not sure of the brand) always look great. She said she's never had this problem. She goes to a walk in place and spent $50.00 for her set and I go to a nice salon and paid $110.00 for mine because I was concerned that a walk in would be as hygenic as a more established place.

Help!

ANSWER: Hi Patricia,
Sounds like your top gloss is not completely cured. This can happen two different ways. Firstly, it could be that your technician is not letting you stay in the UV light for long enough. Secondly, they may need to change their bulbs. On the Brisa lamp, there is an indicator lamp that tells the tech when it is time to change the bulbs. It is widely known in our industry that the Brisa lamp indicator never goes off. And that can certainly be a problem when it comes to receiving a full cure. In my opinion, all lamps need their bulbs changed twice a year. I would definitely give your salon the opportunity to fix the problem.

I hope that I have answered your question, but if I haven't, please feel free to contact me :)

QUESTION: Thanks so much for answering my question, Brooke.  All my nails are not losing their shine.  It's just the index finger and thumb nail of my right hand (I'm right handed so they are get the most use).  My nail tech told me I am the ONLY customer that has ever told her the shine has come off their gels (yikes!).  I was willing to consider that was possible when I first had them done, but since it has happened again with the fills, I'm not so sure.

I'll definitely relay your suggestion about the Brisa lamp bulbs.

What do you consider the most durable brand of gels?  Thanks again for your time.

Answer
Hi Patricia,
I consider Tuff Enuff Nails(or TEN) to be the most durable product on the market. However, it is a new company, so there are not as many techs/salons offering this as of now. Akzentz is a great product and I also like Young Nails Synergy gels. I don't think that there is anything wrong with Brisa, but from what I understand, it can be finicky. So just be sure that your tech has actually taken classes from CND(who makes Brisa) on this product.

Hope this helps, Patricia :)
