QuestionI have a tray given to me as a gift. I was wondering if there is a way to determine if the tray is made of sterling silver or is silver plated. It is approx 30" by 18" in size.

If the tray is the size you suggest then the material would be around $2000 before working on it......and it should way maybe 2 1/2 or 3 kilograms.
So depending on the quality of the work, then you should get a fair idea of whether its silver or not.
If it is in fact silver then you might be talking about a $4000 + tray, so it should be obvious whether it's of that nature or not.

**In fact if it was silver of that quantity then it would certainly be stamped 925.
