QuestionMy boyfriend bought me a ring for Christmas and he said that it's gold but I don't recognize the stamp on the inside of the ring? It says M926. I've had sterling silver jewelry before and I know that stamp is 625. Can you help me?
AnswerG'day Ashley and many thanks for your query
The stamp for Sterling Silver is 925 or .925 (NOT 625 which is for 15ct gold) which means that is the number of parts per thousand of pure metal - silver in this case.
Your ring is supposed to be gold (yellow?) but should have marks on the inside to identify the quality.
The only way you are going to know is take it to your local FRIENDLY Jeweler and have them take a look at it for you. They may charge a small fee to test the item - but at least you'll know for sure.
Hope this helps and a Happy New Year....
