Identifying a Vintage Blue Stone Ring: Seeking Expertise

Question
The ring I have was given to my mother on her 16th bd.  Today she is 96 years old.  It has a large rectangular cut faceted blue stone surrounded by a painted enamel? design bezek.  It is open under the stone, and under the setting and on the shank there is beautiful filligree work.  I have been searching for a long time and have never seen a ring even remotely like this.  I don't know if you can help, but I would certainly appreciate any direction you can give me.

Answer
Hello Candy and thank you for your inquiry.  Your ring sounds beautiful and my advice would be to have it checked both for stone identification and metal.  Open back stones are often genuine. Any markings on the ring may be worn, but you might be able to find them with a good up close photograph. A jeweler or estate appraiser might also be able to tell you the style.  Since this is a family heirloom, it would be good to have all of the id information.  There are online appraisers who will work from a good photograph.  One of them is "WorthPoint" and another is What's It Worth To You".  I have never used either one but have heard good things about them.
Sorry I couldn't give you more information but good luck and enjoy your ring !
