QuestionI hope I am at the right place to ask this...
I am looking for a green gem to design my engagement ring(thats the last time I will mention jewelry). The color green I am looking for is not the bright green of an emerald but a little more earthy. I believe I have seen garnets in this color and some peridot (not too neon though) It would be the main stone and need to look good with diamond accent. We were shown a green diamond once but we were not sure if it was natural. Any advice on something neat and a little different? The purpose of the certain color of green is because my fiance wants it to match my eye color.
Thank you,
Rebecca
AnswerGreen being my favorite color, I know plenty about green gems. My favorite green gem is called Chrome Diopside, it's a beautiful emerald green, and I personally wear one as a pendant daily. Chrome Diopside is not terribly expensive either. There are also green tourmalines which look similar to diopside, but can run a little darker. Tsavorite, a type of green garnet, and is becoming widely known as an emerald green gem, but is usually the most expensive green stone besides emerald. Green Topaz is another contender.
Prasiolite can be a washed out light green, very different compared to the emerald colors.
For yellow/green stones, there is of course Peridot, and I would also consider demantoid, another type of garnet. Demantoid can range from bright green to yellow green, so it may be right up your ally.
It's hard to pick the "earthiest" one, since a single gem from each of those types could look earthy depending on the color and cut. I would suggest demantoid over all, since it's a wonderful green gem with a hint of yellow and sometimes hints of brown.
