Sapphire Fell Out of Ring After Resizing? Causes & Prevention

Hi, I have had a ring with a diamond and 2 sapphires for 8 years with no problems. One week ago I took the ring to the jeweler who had made it for me and needed it to be sized 1/2 size bigger. I have worn it exactly one week and noticed today that one of the sapphires had fallen out! How likely is it that the recent repair caused the stone to be loose?

hi margie..as you probably know high heat is used when resizing a ring and often all the stones are removed since the heat will travel and often crack a stone....my guess is that they were removed and the one that fell was not securley returned..is the silversmith denying responsibility..?...should not.
