QuestionHello
I have recently inherited a gold medalion known to have belonged to my grandfather who was from France and fought in the first war.
The piece is about the size of a 25 cent piece and on the front is a rooster or 'cock' standing on a colapsed vulture which has a sword stuck into it. Around the birds are the words 'FRANCE''RUSSIE' 'ITALIE' 'ANGLETERRE''BELGIQUE'
'SERBIE'. On the back is a single fern leaf.
In very small letters on the border is 'PLASSARD' which I assume is the jeweler.
I am not interested in the dollar value so much as to learn what the meaning is and possibly the age of the piece.
The only PLASSARD I have learned of was of seventeenth century.
The piece is probably cast and very fine. Whatever you might tell me would be much appreciated.
Thank you
Georges Monrufet
AnswerHello and thank you for your inquiry. I have not been able to find out much about your medal and would suggest you have it appraised especially since it is gold. It apparently dates to about 1914 and the war with Germany. I have a website below that may be of some interest to you. Just copy and paste the url into your browser address field and hit enter.
