Identifying Jewelry Markings: What Does 'EIF' Mean?
QuestionHello. I have an old, what appears to be hanmade, pin/brooch. It is gold in color with fresh water pearls and a number of very tiny pink stones. The only marking I can locate it on part of the pin closure and appears to be EIF ? It is extremely tiny and so I am not certain, even with a magnifying glass, that this is correct. Does this mean anything to you? Thanks for any assistance.
AnswerHello Jamie and thank you for your inquiry. I am unable to find a manufacturer/designer with EIF as the first part of the name. If you believe the stones to be genuine or the metal precious gold, you should take it to a professional jeweler or gemologist to have it checked out. Many pieces of older jewelry, especially European, were not marked with the gold content and sometimes precious gems were set in non-gold settings. Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you. It is very difficult to tell much about older costume jewelry without a "hands-on" examination.
