QuestionThomas,
Hello, I found a vintage wedding band/design and asked at the jeweler (where my fiance but my engagement ring and I bought his band) if they could make it, they said yes just bring in a picture.
However, they wanted old gold to bring down the cost and I gave them around a value of $200 so my fiance wouldn't have to pay as much for the ring since he has already paid a nice sum.
The first wax did not even look like a ring/ band or close to my desired ring, so I had someone with a professional printer print the picure with great clarity,
They said this will help so much and made another wax, but was too small to try on and to vague to actually tell what the ring would actually look like...no detailing just shape. They told me not to worry.
Now the ring does not look like the ring in the 4 photos I gave them.
Can I get my money back for the gold I gave them to use, as they did not make my ring to look like the picture? Very little similarity and looks modern not vintage.
They didn't put enough diamonds as i told them (like the photo) and even told me it will be another $100 to redo as for his time...It wasn't right on their part??
Will they try to charge me my gold for his time, as I do not think he or thejeweler deserves a dime of my money for this terrible experience?
So upset as all i want is my wedding band for our wedding in June.
Your comment will be very much appreciated,
Diane
AnswerDiane, being only on one side of the fence with only one view makes it difficult for me to say in definite terms what should happen in each case. However, considering what you have told me, I believe they should refund it all to you, regardless of the time they spent on the ring.
You clearly ordered a specific design and style, including images to clarify what was wanted. This was your "contract" with them, to have the design in the image reproduced and made in jewelry metal. It was not. They did not begin to live up to their end of the deal.
I get the impression the jewelers doing the work for you either are not capable of producing what you wanted or don't care if they do or not. Either way, they owe it all back to you. They will certainly disagree with me on this!
Is there anyone you can contact for local assistance, such as a Better Business Bureau? Sometimes, when a complaint is registered, the bureau will contact the business and ask about the situation. They do not have a legal arm but the call can be enough for some businesses to get right with the customer.
Otherwise, you might have to pursue it through a lawyer and legal means but the cost of that would likely be prohibitive. If you can find an attorney who will provide a first visit free consultation, you can try that and may get all the info you need. Sometimes, a simple letter from an attorney will get enough attention from the business to make the situation right for you, avoiding further ado.
My oh my, I really do not like to hear of things like this happening. Is there any way the jewelers actually believe they made the ring you requested? That would be surprising.
I hope this will be resolved with little stress or added time required from you. Best wishes in the situation.
God Bless and Peace. Thomas.
