Understanding Sterling Silver Markings: What Does 'V1' Mean?

I've just bought an antique silver locket. On the inside its marked STERLING V1. Do you know what it means?

Hello Pat and thank you for your inquiry. I would say that the V1 is the design information. Most of the time manufacturer information is in the form of a "logo". V1 sounds more like design information. Hope this helps and enjoy your locket.
