Decoding Jewelry Maker Marks: Understanding 'JF' on a 14K Pin

Question
i have  pin marked 14k jf  it's a leaf with a pearl on it..
what does jf mean?

Answer
Dear Vickie,

The jewelry marking regulations in the USA say that if an item has a quality mark (the metal stamp), then the maker must sign the item also.  The 14k tells the metal and according to regulations beside that is the makers mark: jf.

Since too much research is needed to even get close to the id of a manufacturer and often that proves incorrect, most experts do not try to identify the makers, including me on that positon as stated in my "instructions" to folks asking questions.  I can tell you the initials are almost certainly the maker's mark, having nothing to do with the quality of the jewelry metal.

Vickie, I do hope this helps you understand the marking system better and the marks on your leaf pin.

God Bless and Peace.  Thomas.
