Eternity Band Reset: Drilling for Cleaning & Sparkle - Jewelry Advice
QuestionI have an eternity band made of round brilliant diamonds in a "bead setting". The jeweler had the diamonds set up high and the prongs are exposed. The setting bothers me and it was not the setting I signed off on. The ring is going to be reset with the diamonds dropped into the band deeper. Should I request holes be drilled into the band for cleaning and sparkle purposes? In the current band there are no drill holes on the inside of the band. I was at a jewelers today for an appraisal and he suggested that I have the new setting made with the drill holes. Thank you for your advice.
AnswerKathy
Its not necessary to have "holes" we call them clean-outs in every ring they are for cleaning the polish and other dirt behind the diamonds after polishing....if its set in prongs not necessary, however, if you will channel set them down into the ring then you should have clean outs
all the best
