Identifying Vintage Brooch Hallmarks: Understanding the MT Mark
Question
back of brooch
Hello,
I have found a circle brooch (maybe Celtic?) and I can't find any information about the hallmark. It is a capital "M" with what looks like an upside down "T" going through it. Above that is the number "9" and another letter or number that I can't make out. Please help! Thank you!
AnswerHello Marcia and thank you for your inquiry. I haven't been able to locate an MT mark similar to the one your describe. It is easier to identify a hallmark when you have the actual mark in front of you. Below is an excellent site for researching hallmarks and you may have luck there. Just copy and paste the below url into your browser address field and hit enter. The marks are categorized by country of origin.

There are also several good Celtic jewelry sites that you could research any design particulars of your brooch - just use your browser search for celtic jewelry. Hope this helps and good luck !
