QuestionHi there, I recently bought a ring in Amsterdam, the trader said it was Art Deco, but looking at styles on line it looks more akin to Art Nuveau to my (untrained) eye. There are two markings on the back, though quite worn. One appears to be a face, in profile, facing to the right and next to it are 3 letters in capitals, as far as I can read they are BBU but could be PPU I suppose. Does this make any sense to you as I can find no reference to anything like this on the web. Any info or resources you could supply me with would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, all the best, Bryony :)
AnswerHello Bryony and thank you for your inquiry. It would be difficult for me to tell you much without first seeing and deciphering the hallmark. I have listed a site below that should be of some help to you. It lists all the world hallmarks (or most of them) by country. If that doesn't lead you to any makers, I would suggest having it appraised by an estate jewelry appraiser or one of the online appraisal services such as What's It Worth To You. They do charge a reasonable fee and have access to a larger resource library as well as experts in other countries. Hope this helps and good luck !
