Massage for Shin Splints: Helpful Techniques & What to Avoid
QuestionIs there any massage i can do for my boyfriend who has really bad shin splints?
AnswerHi there. Thank you for your question. Shin splints are very difficult to handle and treat. But, here are a few suggestions which may help.
Firstly, massage the inflammed area to the best of your ability everyday. Do not use any form of heat. Do not use any form of Tiger Balm or anything like that. If you heat the area-all you are doing is promoting internal bleeding. After competition or training-you client should soak, shower, or swim in cold water. Cold water stops internal bleeding. At the moment-the medical profession is not able to give us too much to go on with by way of treatment. If the condition does not respond to the cold water after competition or training-your client should see a doctor who might recommend anti-inflamatory medication. For some clients-the best that you might achieve is making them more comfortable. For some clients-the best that you might achieve is making the condition liveable. Secondly, make sure that your client's footwear is not causing the condition by being too old or being wornout. I hope that answers your question. If not, you are most welcome to contact me again. Cheers
