I have a gold ring with a single diamond from that was passed down to me and inside it is stamped      MAGIC GLO XX          14K P
what do these stamps mean?

Your ring was made by "Magic Glo" co. and the XX stamp is unknown to me. The '14K P' is the gold quality 14 karat, 'P' for 'plumb', 14K is 58.5% pure gold and the karat weight is 'Plumb'. This means it is within +/-.05% of the 58.5%.
