Silver and Gold: Do They React? Understanding Tarnishing & Discoloration

Question
The issue is that I was cleaning a 10kt gold ring with an amethyst stone and while it was soaking, I added a two silver half dollar coins to also clean them.  I should have removed my ring at the time, but completely forgot about it. When I went back to remove my ring, the color of the gold is now an orangey color--it seems sort of discolored or tarnished appearing.  Would the combination of the silver and gold cause a chemical reaction? And is there anything that I can do to make the gold of the ring look gold again?

Please help!

Answer
Maria-
Dont panic, Yes you are correct. The silver coated the gold rings. It just needs to be polished by a machine with Rouge and Tripoli. It only takes a few minutes to bring back the shine. Take the ring to a jeweler who has a "shop" on premise. They will take care of it for you quickly and at a minimum cost....
good luck and Happy New Year....this should be your biggest worry for the year.....
all the best,
