Identifying a 14k White Gold Sapphire & Diamond Ring - Giovanni Cerrito?

Question

14k white gold- sapphi
Hi. I hope you can help me. I recently purchased a 14k white gold, Sapphire/Diamond Ring at garage sale. It came in a ring box that reads, "Giovanni" and underneath that , there is a coat of arms, and underneath the coat of arms it says "Cerrito". Do you know if "Giovanni" "Cerrito" made 14k gold rings? or do you think it was placed in the wrong ring box? I thought Giovanni was costume jewelry. The lady told me it was her mother's ring and she bought it about 20 years ago. She told me that was the box for the ring. I asked if they were lab created or sapphires. She said sapphires. She also said a jeweler had told her the ring was valued at $250. So I think they are lab created, especailly that the marquise is so big. I purchased it for 40 dollars since the blue was a royal blue color and thats my favorite and it is stamped 14k  with intials j-p. I have enclosed a pic of it. Do you think "Giovanni" "Cerrito" was the jeweler? any info would be great. Thanks

Answer
Hi Vikki, My main advice here Vikki, is to take the ring to your local jeweler and have all the components identified. The gold, and the diamonds especially. Do not be so concerned with the brand name here. The blue stone looks definitely synthetic to me by the picture unless it too is real. If it is you have the "steal" of the century, but my guess is that the diamonds are synthetic and the gold is an overlay but I hope I am wrong for your sake. Other wise it is a nice item and $40 is a good value whatever the components turn out to be.
