Identifying a Unique Estate Sale Bracelet: Crosses & Letters

Question

Front
I found a bracelet at an estate sale and am confused by the engravings. It's a panel type bracelet made of either silver or aluminum with spring hoop clasps on either end. It looks handmade and has either a German iron cross or a maltese cross engraved on one side of the main panel and "N=8" on the other side. To the left of the N=8 are two panels. One has an "E" and the other an "A" engraved on it. To the right of the N=8 are two panels. One has an "R" and the other a "T" engraved on it. I've searched to find out what this is but I have no idea. Could you please tell me what you think it is? I asked a WW2 expert here and he's convinced that it is European but is not war related.

Thanks a lot!

Answer
Hello Chris and thank you for your inquiry.  Yes, you have an unusual bracelet. I've not seen one like it and tend to agree that it may be European just by the lettering and the style. You might have it tested to determine the metal content. Contact your local antique shop or museum for a referral to someone who could test this for you or check with a jeweler. If it is silver, there should be another mark somewhere. It may not directly be war related but maybe used as a rank designation or identification.  I have a "Mystery Item" section on my site where I post pictures of unusual items for remarks or ids.  If you would like, I'll be glad to include this and someone may pick up on it....Just let me know.  Sorry I couldn't help you further otherwise.
