Selling Rough Gemstones & Gold in NYC: Top Buyers & Resources
QuestionMy friend and I have dozens of different gemstones that we mined down south (rubies especially). These vary in size and quality and some are still encased inside of quartz. We live about hrs from NYC & wondered: where and how to sell them there. We also have some gold and platinum nuggets. We would like to find a good market/buyer(s) as we have more in storage and can mine for more. Also, what sites do you recommend as good resources for us. Thank you,
Robert
AnswerHi Robert,
I don't know the quantities or qualities but your best bet is to go to local gem and mineral shows and try to sell your wares. At least it will give you an idea if they are saleable. Then get a booth if you are successful and establish a prescence so folks will remember you. Then if you do well you can move into a venue like Tucson and try the bigtime. Also NYC has many rough dealers you should contact to see if they would buy your goods. I had reasonable success selling gold nuggets from Alaska in Tucson at the show. Today gold is a hot commodity and should sell very well at any gem & mineral show. You should attend a few shows first to see how it;s done befor investing in a booth. Don't forget LOCATION,LOCATION,LOCATION at a show it really maters where your booth is.
