Gemology Career Paths: A Guide for Licensed Professionals

Question
Hello Les,

I am a licensed acupuncturist planning on my first practice later in 2009. I have also, for many years, had a keen interest in learning all about precious/semi-precious gemstones. Not keen on making jewelry or working at a jewelery store, my particular interest involves recognizing the stone's qualties, brokering stones, & selling the stones to wholesalers, retailers, & investors. I would aso love to be able to travel world-wide if possible to come across the best stones at the best prices.

Are there any jobs in the Gemology industry where I could do this? I'd also love this knowledge to invest & collect stones myself.

Thank you very much.

Mike E.

interesting that you have a love for gemstones and the like, I would suggest calling the GIA in either NY or California and get info on their Gemology programs, once you accomplish this task more doors will open but you must be proficient in gemstones and what better way than becoming a gemologist through the worlds leading Laboratory and School.
Gemological Institute of America....
all the best
