Gemstone Drilling for Necklace Creation: A Comprehensive Guide
QuestionI want to drill through a gemstone lengthwise, that length being approximately two inches. I am making a necklace of gemstones and it will be rather heavy. Consequently, I want to thread through the stone for security reasons. I feel it will be more sturdy. Can you help me? It would be greatly appreciated.
AnswerHi,
That is a very large undertaking. Unless the stone is really soft and easy to drill. Even then it will be a task. I have never drilled anything that far. 1/4 inch is about what I normally drill. The drill bits wear out fast and are not cheap when you start going through them.
So it depends on how many hours you want to spend doing that and how much money you want to spend wearing out diamond bits.
Otherwise you need to find someone set up to drill using vibro-sonic drilling and see what they charge to do that for you.
Good luck,
