Navigating Birthing Classes & Surrogacy: A Guide for Healthcare Professionals

Question
Hi, I am a OB nurse looking for anyone with any information on Birthing Classes and Surrogate Mothers. I am intrested in writing a paper on this subject in order to gather information about how to arrange classes for these patients and the other parents. This subject has come up in our hospital due to the increase in alternate birthing options. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Hello Margaret. Are you asking about prenatal classes to prepare both the surrogate mother AND the custodial couple? If I were managing such a program, I would use the couple as the labor supports for the birthing woman. Personally, I prefer the Bradley Method classes over Lamaze. I would suggest you contact the Bradley Method organization and see if they have any experience in this area- they have a website. Also, contact the International Childbirth Education Association. Another source may be Penny Simkin- a renowned childbirth advocate. Hope that helps- Cheri.
