Herpes Zoster & Pregnancy: Risks & Concerns
Questionhello,
my husband recently had Herpes Zoster, that was treated by Acyclovir for 5 days. Now I;m pregnant and we had conception approx. 20 days after he stoped taking Acyclovir. could it negatively influense a baby?
thank you.
AnswerUnless you develop Herpes simplex lesions and the baby is exposed DIRECTLY to them on its way through the birth canal during labor, the baby will not be affected by your husbands Herpes Zoster. Even if you developed Heerpes simplex during pregnancy, it would not cause any effect on the baby. If, on the other hand, you had a herpetic lesion at the time you are in labor, a cesarean section would be done. Herpes Zoster (the adult form of chicken pox) does not effect babies and is not transmitted to the mother. You need not worry.
