QuestionHello Doctor
I appollogize in advance because the english is not my first language,I am female 27 years old, I have never smoked, I don't drink and I have never use any sort of drugs. I started on birth control 4 days ago, the day after took the 3rd pill (Loestrim) I started feeling a very slight cramps in my legs, I don't have any swelled area or red or with any other color, I can walk perfectly, more than a pain it is just something that bothers me, I was very scare so I stoped taking it, so my question is, for someone like me, without any risk for blod clots, is it possible that only after 3 days of being on birth control develop a clot? I don't know if this is happen because I got paranoic, is this common? I have done reasearch and all what I have seen online are people that have had clots have been on birth control for years or months, not days.
AnswerHello Elena,
You're doing very well with your English. I'm afraid I don't know how long one must be on the pill to increase risk of blood clots. I think it may be possible that 3 days are enough. However, if you felt the cramps in both legs, it's probably not a clot, which is much more likely to be found on only one side or the other. It's usually a pain rather than a cramp, and usually in the calf. It's good to be cautious. You may want to stay off the pill until the cramps are gone, then try it again. If the cramps return, it might be best to see your doctor to check it out further. So in summary, I don't think it was from a blood clot, but I can't be sure.
