Alcohol Consumption in Early Pregnancy: Risks and Concerns

Question
I just found out I am 4 weeks pregnant, I am concerned because for the first few weeks I had a few alchoholic beverages.  I am not a big drinker, I maybe had a total of 2 drinks every other day.  I know that the first few weeks of pregnancy are very important so my question is, will the few drinks I consummed harm my baby?

Answer
There is no way to know how much alcohol is dangerous to a growing fetus. We used to allow some alcohol during pregnancy but recent studies have shown that even one drink can cause problems, whilce, in some instances, alcohol has no effect on the fetal development. Of course, avoid binge drinking and try not to drink anymore during the pregnancy. Usually, if alcohol were to harm the baby, it would cause miscarriage rather tnan any developmental anomalies. I doubt that the few drinks that you had will cause any harm.
