QuestionDr.
I currently take 7 mg of Warafin per day. Last week I am certain that I took 2 5 mg tablets and one 1 mg tabblet. That same evening, I was at a function where alcohol was served and enjoyed some cocktails. ithin 2 hours, I found myself on the floor of my hotel room completely incoherent. Being I took the meds about 1 1/2 hors before having any cocktails, would or could that explain why I could have blacked out and recolect nothing of the evening?
I basically think I doubled up on my dosage, and want to make certain that if I did, I make sure not to do so again in the future. Would or could alcohol and the warafin have that type of an affect on a person?
I have not yet seen my physician, but am positive this is what I may have done. Can you shed any light on what doubling up on warafin and alcohol can do to someone? My normal INR rate should be between 2.5-3.
Any information you can provide would certainly help.
Answerthe warfarin and alcohol has no interaction and did not affect your mental state. You may have drank too much or another drug was involved but this combination by itself should not cause the blackout.....
doubling up by accident really should not do that much if done once.... there is a several day lag where your INR might go up a little bit but then come back down when you go back on the stable dose but in the long run doesn't make a difference.
