Irregular Periods After Childbirth: Causes & What to Expect

I am 32yo and had baby #3 8mos ago.  I am breastfeeding and providing solid as well.  My period returned for the first time Feb 3, 2004. Since then, I have gotten it 3 more times, for a total of 4 periods in 6 weeks. I just started bleeding (4th time) yesterday. The blood flow is a normal amount for me, and lasts 4-5 days.  What is going on?  My cycle is normally 35 days long.

What were the dates of the bleeding that you had (the first day of each) It is common to have irregular bleeding if you are breastfeeding. Even if you stop nursing, the perids can be irregular for up to a year after you stop nursing. HOwever, if you are bleeding heavily (more than 14 days at a time without a break) you may have to call your gynecologist and have it checked out. You may have some hormonal imbalance that can be corrected with Provera 10mg twice a day for 5 days. Keep a careful record of the days that you bleed and let your doctor know.
