Irregular Periods After Childbirth: Causes & What to Do
QuestionI'm 23 and have one child of 7 months. The most recent dates of my periods are as follows: Dec 22-27; Jan 5-7; Jan 31-Feb 3; Feb 16- Mar 6 (current). I do not use any form of birthcontrol and am not sexually active. Also, This is not new since having the baby. My periods have been irregular for several years. I have seen 3 doctors: all three has tried many different kinds of birthcontrol pills ( some made me more nauseus than i am without) WHICH did effectivly regulate my periods. Also, some ovarian cysts have been found from time to time. Assuming my irregularity is due to hormone imbalance; why ARE my hormones imbalanced? And are there any lifestyle changes i can make to help (perhaps diet)?
AnswerI don't think that all the bleeding that you have had is due to your period. Some may be "midcycle" bleeding due to ovulation. I would keep a careful record of your bleeding and try birth control pills again. Use a dosage of 1/35 rather than a low dose method of birth control. The pills will regulate your cycle. It will take three cycles, and then you will no longer have nausea, weight gain, or headaches. You may also have breakthrough bleeding for three months.
