Irregular Periods & Implantation Bleeding: What to Know

Question
hello again doctor..
you see.. i'm confused because i haven't had my own periods for 4 years..
about implantation bleeding.. does it at all consist of fresh red blood?
the long question i wrote was actually to ask you about my chances of getting pregnant..
so after 7 days of having sex, on the 8th day i start having this something, old brownish type blood plus sometimes some fresh blood. it lasted for two days.. i was wondering if this could be implantation bleeding? or considering my condition, could this just be a late withdrawl bleeding since i took estrogen (premarin) for 10 days and the last pill i took about 12 days before this bleeding. i'm very thankful for your help doctor. God bless you

Answer
If you took Premarin for 10 days, you may, indeed, have withdrawal bleeding 12 days later. If you had a regular period, you would have ovulated around 14 days later. If you had unprotected sex around that time, and did become pregnant, a pregnancy test would not show a positive result until 14-21 days later. Implantation does not occur until 8 days after conception (around cycle day #22). If there is any doubt, take a pregnancy test and you will know for sure. If you are taking Premarin and do not get your period on time, you should also be takiing Provera (progesterone) for the last 10 days each month to induce your period for you. Discuss it with your doctor.
