Trying to Conceive After a Miscarriage: Timing & Chances
QuestionI had an incomplete miscarriage on Feb. 28. I was wondering if you could tell me what my chances are of concieving soon. My doctor informed me that I should wait until I have 2 cycles before trying again. But due to religious beliefs we don't use contraception. Will I be able to concieve soon and having a healthy pregnancy and should I be worried about it so soon after miscarriage?
AnswerAfter a miscarriage, there is no problem in conceiving right away. You do not have to wait more than one cycle, and that is merely to allow you to ovulate again. After the miscarriage, you probably will get your normal period again within 2-4 weeks. Then, two weeks after your period starts, you will ovulate and can conceive. There is no danger in becoming pregnant. Your risk of another miscarriage is 15-20% of every pregnancy. Usually, we advise you not to have sexual intercourse for 2 weeks following the miscarriage to make sure that the cervix is closed. Good luck to you.
