QuestionHi Dr. Ramirez,
I am 39, I am blessed with 3 heatlhy children, but we are trying for 1 more. I had a miscarriage on 3/28 I was almost 7 weeks. My HCG down below 5 exactly one week after the miscarriage. Almost a month later I was pregnant again with a positive home test(never got a period after the first miscarriage). By the time I went in for blood work, 3 days after +HPT, my level was only 10. Then miscarried/started bleeding 2 days later. I was told that was a "chemical pregnancy"
My doctor wants me to wait at least 2 cycles before trying again, I've also heard that waiting 1 cycle in enough. What do you usually recommend? Does it make a diffence that I didn't wait any cycles between my 2 miscarriages? I know that my age & older eggs are working against me & I'm impatient to wait longer than is really necessary. Thank you so much.
AnswerHello Julia from the U.S.,
Waiting does not have any purpose or problems. Your body will reset on its own and things will happen when they are meant to. Keep in mind that you age has a significant impact on your miscarriage rate. It is 40% per pregnancy. Therefore, it may take several pregnancies before you get a good one. The main reason for the increased miscarriages is due to poor egg quality leading to genetically abnormal embryos. Most of these abnormal embryos will not make it past 6 weeks, but if the abnormality is slight, as in Down's syndrome, it can make it so you should still undergo genetic testing if your remain pregnant.
